Le prémier jour de mon stage

Today was the first day of my internship at the Musée National du Moyen Âge, le Cluny. The director of cultural services and my internship director, Madame Elisabeth Clavé, greeted me at the entrance and introduced me to the majority of the museum staff, who welcomed me with a smile and a glass of champagne. Half of my time I spent with Marie, one of the conférencier, or lecturers, following her discussion of everyday life during medieval times with a group of eight year olds. Together, we looked at art works and talked about what we saw much like I did when I volunteered at the Tang Museum on Skidmore College's campus last spring, except that this time everything was in French. Afterwards, Marie asked me if she had spoke too fast to understand, and I wanted to tell her that the French level of a native speaking eight year old was not far from my own, but said "non" instead.

I then met up with Mme Clavé, who put me to work! For the moment, I am correcting the Chief Conservateur, or Curato, Sophie Lagabriella's own French information cards that, in her opinion, have been poorly translated into British-style English. What a task! These cards will be placed in the museum's two rooms full of stained-glass windows. So, today, I spent much of my time reading the cards in French, making corrections and really admiring the artwork. I'll meet with Sophie on Wednesday to formally correct these cards with her. It is all very interesting work, and really exciting, too. Four hours went by so quickly. In any case, I definitely will be spending a lot of time at the museum. During the week, I intern Monday and Thursday afternoons, and Wednesday all day. There are also a number of themed tours, concerts and special events throughout the week I am sure to attend.

Et, voilà, mon stage! Less frightening and more prestigious than I expected, absolutely. Je suis très contente :). I'm looking forward to all the things to come.
